TGIF – Benefits With Friends

October 12, 2012 by Bill Bradley

As the week winds down, we wind down with some tidbits for your information, education, health, and enjoyment.

Quote of the Week: “Life is a series of natural and spontaneous changes. Don’t resist them; that only creates sorrow. Let reality be reality.  Let things flow naturally forward in whatever way they like.”   Lao Tzu

Humor Break:

Bev: Hey Al, we need to go on a vacation.

Al: We’re retired.  We are on vacation.

Stat of the Week: 13 weeks of vacation for 15 years of service with many companies in Australia -  4 more weeks after 5 more years and 4 more every 5 years.  I guess this is a career path to retirement.  This unusual stat is courtesy of Mercer, who has compiled some innovative (or just off-the-wall) employee benefits in Employees benefit in unusual ways. Check out wedding benefits in China and Portugal; home electricity generators (with free maintenance) for some employees in Nigeria; Botox Leave (I kid thee not) in the UK and … well you get the idea.  You will enjoy visiting this highly entertaining page.

Action Tip: Feel a bit impish?  Pass today’s link on to the benefits department in your organization and ask them if any of these benefits are being considered for the employees in your company.

The Self-Development Corner: Today I continue to urge you to go back to college the free and easy way: Online!  (1) If you have the Investment Bug (that’s you Andy) try Computational Investing, Part I from Georgia Tech begins October 22, (2) make Fundamentals of Personal Financial Planning from UC Irvine beginning January, 2013 your first New Year’s resolution (but recommend you sign up now – it is incredibly easy and they will send you a timely reminder).

Bill Bradley (mostly) retired after 35 years in organizational consulting, training and management development. During those years he worked internally with seven organizations and trained and consulted externally with more than 90 large and small businesses, government agencies, hospitals and schools.
