TGIF – “Man vs Email”

March 4, 2011 by Bill Bradley

As the week winds down, we wind down with some tidbits for your information, education, health, and enjoyment.

Quote of the Week: I am definitely going to take a course on time management… just as soon as I can work it into my schedule. Louis E. Boone

Humor Break: Time is nature’s way of keeping everything from happening at once. Woody Allen

Stat of the Week: 90 minutes seems to be a good plan to increase your personal effectiveness.  That would be 90 uninterrupted minutes focused on what is really important.  No emails, telephones, walk-ins, or meetings.  You will feel good about your accomplishments, important stuff gets done, and you have the rest of the day to deal with the mundane.

Action Tip: Everyone talks about time management, but so few do anything about it.  Make it a goal. Have a talk with your fellow employees about the importance of a 90 minute period each day without interruptions.  Explain what you are doing and ask for their cooperation.  (I once saw a sign on the outside of a cubicle that said “I do the really important stuff between 7:30 and 9:00 – I will have time for you later.”  Smile)

Volunteering: Today’s volunteer tip is a little different.  Find a coworker and volunteer to help protect his/her 90 minutes in exchange for the other person helping to protect your 90 minutes.
