TGIF – No More Slubberdegullions

December 27, 2013 by Bill Bradley

As the week winds down, we wind down with some tidbits for your information, education, health, and enjoyment.

Quote of the Week: “How few there are who have courage enough to own their faults, or resolution enough to mend them.” Benjamin Franklin

Humor Break:

Bev: Al you need to make a resolution for 2014 to be more respectful of others.

Al: I would gladly suffer fools more graciously, but then they want to take up more of my time.

Stat of the Week: 5 tips for improving your personality. As we approach the new year we often find ourselves thinking of ways we can better ourselves. If you want to improve your interpersonal skills, here are five suggestions from your favorite TGIF chawbacon:

  • Don’t be a loblolly.
  • No one likes a blatherskite.
  • Team members absolutely hate a cacafuego.
  • If you are a crepehanger don’t expect to get invited to parties.
  • And finally, absolutely don’t succumb to being a slubberdegullion – we already have enough of these types, especially in the upper echelons.

Action Tip: If you are planning to go to a holiday party this season, you can create a game by giving the guests these five descriptors and asking them to match them to a famous media talking head. (There are multiple correct answers.)

Self-Development Corner: January dates for Coursera courses have not been fully announced. Fear not, the free online university has more than 500 coming in 2014. Maybe by the time you read this you can click on the link and get an update.

Happy Learning! Happy New Year!

Bill Bradley (mostly) retired after 35 years in organizational consulting, training and management development.
