TGIF – Sleep On This!

June 22, 2012 by Bill Bradley

As the week winds down, we wind down with some tidbits for your information, education, health, and enjoyment.

Quote of the Week: “The amount of sleep required by the average person is five minutes more.”  Wilson Mizener

Humor Break:

Bev:  You know Al, I have been thinking about the world we live in.  So many bad people.  But I am convinced the good people sleep better.

Al: Maybe, but the bad ones seem to to have more fun during their waking hours.

Stat of the Week: Today is 2 days removed from the “longest” day of the year which is a loose lead into the following: Center for Disease Control reveals 30 percent of American adults—that’s 40.6 million of us—sleep six hours a day or fewer. If you work more than 40 hours a week, the chances you get inadequate shut-eye are ever higher—36% of this group gets fewer than six hours.  “not sleeping enough, or sleeping irregular hours, makes it more likely you’ll get fat…. ill—or dead.”

Action Tip: Keep tabs on yourself for a week and see how much sleep you are averaging.  And remember this oddity, the first step in weight control is to get enough sleep!

Weight Watch – Week 13:  (A personal 16 week Healthy Life Style report)

The 13th week’s results are in: I LOST .9 pounds on the official digital scale. Thirteen weeks into the program and I am down 14.8 pounds.  I lost weight despite going (way) off my diet for two meals this week.  Otherwise I followed my diet and exercise program rigidly.

I am getting concerned that at some point all my efforts won’t produce any results. I found this article from the Mayo Clinic to be most encouraging. It won’t take more than 90 seconds to read, but if you are serious about losing weight I suggest a quick read. Made me feel better. Hopefully you will too: “Getting past a weight-loss plateau”.
