HOT READS FOR THE PRACTITIONER
Title: Have Yourself a Lovely Little Holiday
Competencies: managing self, stress management, achievement orientation, performance management, leadership
Who benefits: all who work
Consultant Usage: first, heed this advice for yourself; second, share with you clients
What’s it about? Derek Thompson, the senior business editor at The Atlantic, has written a terrific article on productivity. He continues with an emerging theme that less is more. In this 10 minute read he makes a terrific argument for fewer work hours and more breaks and vacations.Â
“The science of productivity tells us breaks matter more than overtime.â€Â
“…clear evidence: The secret to being an effective worker is not working too hard.â€
The above are a couple of quotes I hope will get you interested enough to stop reading this post and read his. He is an excellent writer, eloquent even. He makes his case beautifully. Incorporated into his article is a series of excellent slides summarizing what he is writing. They are great examples of what slides should look like (except for one funny spelling error … funny what one misplaced letter can do!).Â
Despite my 100% willingness to recommend this article, there are at least 3 significant grammatical errors embedded. I wonder if he shouldn’t follow his own advice and take an extra break or two.
However I am quite willing to follow his advice. As you read this I am in Mexico on holiday!
Catch you later.Â

You are willing to follow his advice and I am willing to follow yours. Love the idea of not working too hard. Enjoy your time in Mexico and speaking of, it seems time for a seista! Take care. Lee
