Title: What Can Coaches Do for You?

Competency: coaching

Who benefits: professional coaches

Consultant Usage: new research about your profession

What’s it about? Today’s post is shorter than usual because I just came across the article and I want to get it to you before it disappears into the archives.  This post is also of limited interest except to those of you who are professional coaches.  It is my understanding however that a number of you who regularly read this blog are in that category.

The article is in the January issue of Harvard Business Review (HBR).  The article addresses the changing role of the “executive coach”, why coaches are hired, what they are paid, and what to look for in a coach.

The research involved 140 professional/executive coaches and the results were debated by 5 experts selected by the HBR research team.  For the full article you need to be an HBR subscriber or purchase it on line.  However, in addition to an extended summary, this site offers a 7 minute audio version by one of the primary authors of the article and is definitely worth a listen.

Bottom line, if you have not already seen this article, you will want to give it a look and listen to keep up with your colleagues.

Catch you later.
