What’s it about? New year!  Hopefully you are making some improvement plans for yourself.  Stop doing things you shouldn’t?  Start doing things you should?  Continue doing what you love?  And maybe, just maybe, not worry so much about all those “shoulds” and “shouldn’ts”

One of my favorite Bloggers, Heidi Grant Halvorson, has come up with a list of Nine Ways Successful People Defeat Stress.  It is powerful. I am going to give you the list right here, but I urge you to go to her website and read the details … especially the first one about self-compassion.

The list:

1. Have self-compassion.
2. Remember the “Big Picture.”
3. Rely on routines.
4. Take five (or ten) minutes to do something you find interesting.
5. Add where and when to your to-do list.
6. Use if-thens for positive self-talk.
7. See your work in terms of progress, not perfection
8. Think about the progress that you’ve already made.
9. Know whether optimism or defensive pessimism works for you.

There you have it.  Follow her guidelines and manage your stress.

She has also written a book, Nine Things Successful People Do Differently, previously reviewed by me.  I recommended it and still do.

Catch you later.
