TGIF – Meetings v. Work

February 4, 2011 by Bill Bradley

As the week winds down, we wind down with some tidbits for your information, education, health, and enjoyment.

Quote of the Week:  “Meetings are a symptom of bad organization. The fewer meetings the better.”  Peter F. Drucker

Humor Break: Meetings – A practical alternative to work.

Stat of the Week: Seven people is the optimal size of a decision-making group. Each additional member reduces effectiveness by 10%, meaning that groups of 17 or more are lucky if they make any decisions at all.  From: Decide and Deliver: Five Steps to Breakthrough Performance in Your Organization

Action Tip: Next time you are in a meeting, pay attention to who isn’t contributing and invite them to comment.  Some folks just need a little added incentive.

Volunteering: Almost all volunteer organizations are in desperate need of group facilitators.  If you have facilitation skills, go to your favorite volunteer organization and offer your skills.
