TGIF – Terry Paulson Is An Optimist

July 13, 2012 by Bill Bradley

As the week winds down, we wind down with some tidbits for your information, education, health, and enjoyment.

Quote of the Week: I am an optimist. It does not seem too much use being anything else. Winston Churchill

Humor Break: Today’s Humor Break is based on a true story many, many years ago.

Bill: Mom, I think I flunked my math test.

Mom: Son, you have to be more positive in your attitude.

Bill: Okay mom, I am positive I flunked my math test.

Stat of the Week: 10 Qualities of Confident and Resilient People: Today  being Friday the 13th, it seems appropriate that I salute an optimistic friend, Terry Paulson, PhD.  Terry is a great story teller and humorist who has a way of getting pity phrases into our heads and often into our actions.  Terry and his partner in this endeavor, Tony Alassandra, promise “you’ll trade feelings of frustration, doubt, and stress for the flexible optimism, innovative resourcefulness, and strategic persistence that the unshakably confident people exhibit every day.”  So if that reads like something you could use in your life, click on the link and they will provide you with many hours of stories and positive living tips.  (Okay, this is a commercial.  But it is my commercial.  Terry (nor Tony) had no idea I was going to plug their material today.)

Action Tip: I am optimistic that you will seriously consider investing in the CDs/MP3s.  Plus Terry and I have had a running bet for more than 20 years on the outcome of annual UCLA-USC football game.  He has been funding my retirement and might be low on funds.  He is, however, optimistic about this coming season.

Weight Watch – Week 16:  (A personal 16 week Healthy Life style report)

The 16th week’s results are in: I LOST 1.4 pounds on the official digital scale.  Sixteen weeks into the program and I am down 19.2 pounds.  This is the final report on the experiment/experience.

Will I go back to my old ways?  No, never!  Will I expand (but not around the waist line) the number of items I consume.  Yes!  Occasional pastas, breads and a monthly trip to Cold Stone Creamery are in the plans.  And finally, what did I learn?  Moderation in all things is more than a slogan.  Smaller portions and regular exercise can be a way of life and living.  Limit carbs, fried foods, deserts.  Pounds don’t drop off.  They waste away.  Set an achievable goal.  Look 3 months, 4 months down the road and ask yourself “How much do I want to weight in 4 months (or pick another number)?  Four months will go by anyway so what’s it to be?  A newer, healthier you?  Or the same old you?  Your choice.  I have already made mine.  Here is wishing you a healthy life style.
