As the week winds down, we wind down with some tidbits for your information, education, health, and enjoyment.
Quote of the Week: “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” Thomas Edison
Humor Break:
Bev: How’s that fancy-Dan entrepreneurial friend of yours doing with his new-fangled creative financial firm?
Al: He’s giving it up.
Bev: Yeah, but he’s said that before.
Al: This time he heard it from a Judge.
Stat of the Week: This week the “Stat†is for those of you who have entrepreneurial blood coursing through your blood stream. Maybe you are tired of the 9 to 5 experience – and you want a 6:00 AM to Midnight experience operating your own company. Maybe you just want a little action on the side. Maybe you are considering being an independent consultant. Anyway before you branch out, consider the sage advice of 16 people who often give advice to “start-ups†and “add-onsâ€. (If nothing else I learned that Apple has a high level position called Chief Evangelist.)
Self-Development Corner: This week from Coursera, the free online university, we begin with a couple of course dedicated to our healthcare readers and friends: Health for All Through Primary Health Care, (May 29, 5 weeks, Johns Hopkins); this course is definitely for everyone – Social Epidemiology (May 31, 7 weeks, University of Minnesota).
And I would like you to pay special attention to a course many of us could benefit from (but hate to admit it): First-Year Composition 2.0, (May 27, 8 weeks, Georgia Tech).
Love the wisdom from the 16 people who give advice and what struck me is how I would have loved this at 35 when I started my business. At 70, too tired for this but grateful to have the little business I do. Have a nice holiday weekend.
