As the week winds down, we wind down with some tidbits for your information, education, health, and enjoyment.
Quote of the Week: “More companies are discovering that an über-connected workplace is not just about implementing a new set of tools — it is also about embracing a cultural shift to create an open environment where employees are encouraged to share, innovate and collaborate virtually.† Karie Willyerd & Jeanne C. Meister, HarvardBusiness.org
Humor Break:
St. Peter: “What have you done in your life?â€
Man standing at Pearly Gates: “Didn’t you read my tweets???â€
Stat of the Week: Harvard Business Review Blogger Mark Bonchek gives a big picture look at the social revolution. “Every day brings some new bit of information — or hype — about social business. If you actively follow the social space, it’s easy to get caught in the never-ending stream. If you don’t, you may find all the talk about social overwhelming. So it’s useful to step back, gain some perspective and see the bigger picture. And it is a big picture. Communication revolutions like this have happened before, but you have to go back to Gutenberg in 1450 to find one as significant.â€
Here are the big 6 changes in progress. Stay tuned!
Action Tip: Today’s action tip is on the periphery of the Stat of the Week. One significant area which has evolved significantly out of the social revolution is email. If you ever feel overwhelmed by email at work, check out what the always interesting and practical Amy Gallo has to say in Stop Email Overload.
Weight Watch – Week: (A personal 16 week Healthy Life style report)
The 11th week’s results are in: I LOST .8 pounds on the official digital scale. Eleven weeks into the program and I am down 15.3. Despite some interuptions, there is a theme, if not a trend, that is occurring. If I stick to a healthy diet, smaller proportions and exercise regularly I can expect to lose a little weight every week. Not much … just a little, but over time it adds up (or is it “loses downâ€?). The word of the week is “consistency!â€.
I found reinforcement for this idea of consistency in a very short article (with lots of useful links) called “Weight-loss basics†from the Mayo Clinic.
