As the week winds down, we wind down with some tidbits for your information, education, health, and enjoyment.
Quote of the Week: “When a great many people are unable to find work, unemployment results.†Calvin Coolidge
Humor Break:
Bev: Are there any good employment opportunities these days?
Al: Well the government is hiring a lot of people to process unemployment claims.
Stat of the Week: 600,000,000 – according to a Time Magazine report this is the number of jobs that need to be created in the developing world by 2020 just to keep up with population growth. Compare that to 11,800,000 currently unemployed in the United States (June, 2013).
Action Tip: This staggering worldwide number reinforces my recent column on the need for the emerging conscious capitalism economic model and the cornerstone book Conscious Capitalism. Modesty aside, if you haven’t read the post or the book, please consider investing your time in these two sources.
Self-Development Corner:Â Some important online courses begin next week for our medical readers: Mathematical Biostatistics Boot Camp 1 (July 29, 7 weeks, Johns Hopkins University); Virology I: How Viruses Work (August 1, 11 weeks, Columbia University)
For something a little different and for your enjoyment, consider The Modern and the Postmodern (July 29, 14 weeks, Wesleyan University) – warning from moi, this course requires a lot of reading … could be time consuming.
Happy learning.
Hi Bill…I am back in town and trying to catch up. Hope you are well and give Karen my best.
