As the week winds down, we wind down with some tidbits for your information, education, health, and enjoyment.
Quote of the Week: “(L)ifestyle practices are the ship and sails, but there is still the wind and waves. The former we can control to increase the probability of a safe crossing; the latter, we cannot — and thus even a well-captained ship may founder.†Dr. David L. Katz
Humor Break:
Bev: Al, did you finally go and get a new hearing aid?
Al: Sure did. Cost $6,000 but it is state of the art. It’s perfect! Glad I finally did it!
Bev: What kind is it?
Al: Twelve thirty.
Stat of the Week: 6 health habits than can add years to your life. Dr. David L. Katz, a medical doctor and health writer offers his Super Six health tips for a longer life. It is nice that he sums up all six together. It is even nicer that he does it in six words! Here they are with my prompts in parentheses:
Feet (physical activity)
Forks (optimal diet)
Fingers (never hold a cigarette)
Sleep (get the right amount)
Stress (manage it)
Love (someone besides yourself)
Action Tip: The good doctor says that beyond lifestyle and Vitamin D there isn’t anything else that can stand rigorous scrutiny. If you read the short article you will find many links to more in-depth health tips and research findings. With the new year just around the corner, this might be a perfect time to start planning your (health) goals for next year.
Self-Development Corner: For our first language Chinese and French readers, click on Coursera for several upcoming courses next week. For our English readers, there are two courses that may be of interest beginning Monday:

Happy learning.
