As the week winds down, we wind down with some tidbits for your information, education, health, and enjoyment.
Quotes of the Week:
“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.†Mahatma Gandhi
“Never believe that a few caring people can’t change the world. For, indeed, that’s all who ever have.†Margaret Mead
Humor Break:
Bev: Al, what is “change management
Al: It’s what we retired folks do each month when we are down to our last dollar.
Stat of the Week: 2 minutes! You have had a long week. Hopefully you have some regeneration planned for the weekend. How about a two minute inspirational video from a Nobel Peace Prize winner to make you smile as you leave this week behind and reflect on what you will do over this weekend … or next week … or the rest of your life.
Action Tip: How about sharing this video with your children? Or your friends? Or your friends’ children?
Self-Development Corner: We kick off this week’s free online university courses with Money! If you are interested in exploring connections with foreign exchange and capital markets, then you might like Economics of Money and Banking, Part Two (Oct 13, 6 weeks, Bernard College, Columbia University – Part I not required).
For something really special try Machine Learning by Andrew Ng (co-founder of Coursera), (Oct 14, 10 weeks, Stanford University); a distant relative of this course might be Game Theory (Oct 14, 8 weeks, Stanford University); then there is an advanced course C++ For C Programmers (Oct 14, 8 weeks, UC Santa Cruz); and if you want to learn how to keep a secret there is Cryptography II (Oct 15, 6 weeks, Stanford University).
Here is another course in the Mini MBA track from Wharton; however it can be taken independent of the other courses: An Introduction to Marketing (Oct 14, 9 weeks, Wharton, University of Pennsylvania).
For those of you with a health interest here is a really big course: Epidemics – the Dynamics of Infectious Diseases (Oct 15, 8 weeks, Penn State).  How do I know it is really big? There are 8 professors teaching it … almost an epidemic of professors!
For our German speaking friends and readers who have an interest in computers and economics there is Informatik für Ökonomen (Oct 16, 9 weeks, University of Zurich – in German).
Happy learning!
The hummingbird video was no less impressive the second time than the first…thanks and have a good weekend.
