TGIF – Thank All 62.8 Million Of You

September 23, 2011 by Bill Bradley

As the week winds down, we wind down with some tidbits for your information, education, health, and enjoyment.

Quote of the Week: “It is time for us to stand and cheer for the doer, the achiever, the one who recognizes the challenge and does something about it.” Vince Lombardi

Humor Break: Today we give you a special humor break with some goodies about volunteering.  If you don’t smile at these … get a life!

Noah’s Ark was built by volunteers. The Titanic was built by professionals.

Volunteering is the time without the crime. Community Service on the other hand….

A volunteer offers to help out at a community farm. Little did she know that she would be mucking a filthy sheep stall.  After two hours of toil, she looks down dismayed at her filthy jeans and boots, the farmer in charge casually sees her and says, “What did you expect? Sheep happens.”

Volunteerism gives you a high that’s legal and doesn’t require a condom.

Stat of the Week: I have been wondering if our weekly post promoting Volunteering has had any impact.  I found this amazing Stat: “Volunteers are resolute in their commitment to serving their neighbors and communities, with 62.8 million adults volunteering almost 8.1 billion hours in local and national organizations in 2010, service valued at almost $173 billion.”  Unfortunately no mention was made of how many of the 62.8 million volunteers were the result of this Blog.

Action Tip: If you ain’t one of the above volunteers, get off your butt!

Volunteering: “Explore the (above) website for the most comprehensive data on volunteering ever assembled including volunteer profiles for all 50 states and the District of Columbia as well as hundreds of metropolitan areas, rankings, demographic trends, and profiles of volunteer organizations making an impact on some of our nation’s toughest challenges.”  And volunteer opportunities.
