What’s it about?  Today’s posts goes to the core business of Envisia Learning.   Envisia is all about 360-degree feedback.  The company researches it, sells it, services it, and if I may pat my colleagues on the back, they were the pioneers of and are now the leading edge of the 360 experience.

Many of you readers have been through the process before or will in the future.  You either know what it is like to get feedback from your boss, direct reports, peers, customers, vendors or some other designated group, or you will know. No matter how many times you have or will go through the process, there is a likelihood that you will be apprehensive when you receive your feedback report.

What happens if that data isn’t up to your expectations?  Or worse?  If you have received “the hammer” or expect it to fall, then you may want to read today’s recommended reading. It is a post by a very fine writer by the name of Amy Gallo.  She is a regular Blog contributor on the Harvard Business Review Online website. She sets the stage nicely in her opening paragraph when she writes: “However, the truth is not always pretty, and receiving a negative 360-degree review can be upsetting, especially when the opinions are echoed at many levels.  But with the right attitude, you can still create a positive experience.  How you handle a bad 360-degree review is far more important than the content of the review itself.”

She goes on to list six points to consider:

· Reflect before reacting
· Avoid a witch hunt
· Decide what to respond to
· Commit to change
· Talk with your manager or team
· How to handle outliers

And she ends with some principles to remember and a couple of very short case studies.

All-in-all a very well written, straight to the point, helpful post.  If it has any application to you, I urge you to read it.

If you know someone else who could benefit from the article, pass it on.  But one word of caution.  Be very careful in how you pass it on.  Just passing the article to someone else is a form of feedback!

Catch you later.
