TGIF – Women At Work

January 14, 2011 by Bill Bradley

As the week winds down, we wind down with some tidbits for your information, education, health, and enjoyment.

Quote of the Week:  “Women can do everything; men can do the rest.” Russian Proverb

Humor Break: Woman to her male boss: “Of course I don’t look busy…I did it right the first time!”

Stat of the Week: In a recent McKinsey survey, only 18% of respondents say that their companies’ executive teams visibly monitor programs for gender diversity, though nearly half say that a policy of visible monitoring has the biggest impact on moving women into top management.  72% of those responding to the survey said that having an active monitoring program has a positive financial impact on the company.

Action Tip: Take the McKinsey article to HR and ask about your company’s diversity program, specifically about a policy monitoring women moving into top management.  If no policy exists, ask why not.

Volunteering: If you are in a position to help a woman who is, will be, or could be on the move up, volunteer as a mentor.  Check out this article for some important mentoring tips.
