Every week, I review blogs that cover talent development to find the very best talent development posts. This week, you’ll find pointers to pieces about best companies for leadership development, the importance of leadership development, a leadership gap, and talent management revisited.
This is the week of big surveys and we start with one of the most-anticipated.
Hay Companies Sixth Annual Best Companies for Leadership
“Hay Group, a global management consulting firm, today released its sixth annual Best Companies for Leadership Study and Top 20 list. The study ranks the best companies for leadership around the globe and examines how those companies develop current and future leaders. This year, General Electric topped the list, followed by Procter & Gamble, Intel Corporation, Siemens and Banco Santander.”
Wally’s Comment: This annual report always sparks conversation and debate. Remember, though, it’s more about the lessons than the list.
From HR Dimensions: Survey Says Leadership Development Remains Critical
“During an economic downturn when money is tight and many organizations are in survival mode, it is nevertheless critical to look closely at investing in employees. That was the result of a recent survey, conducted by Indianapolis-based HR Dimensions. The company asked human resource professionals from across the state to identify their top three concerns in human resources for 2011.”
Wally’s Comment: Guess what those top three concerns included. That’s right, leadership development.
From Egon Zehnder: Study: Corporations Lack Leadership to Deal with Change
“More than two-thirds of corporate executives see great danger in leadership being overwhelmed by the complex challenges brought about by the current trend in which companies are experiencing convergence, according to a new study released today by Egon Zehnder International, a global executive search firm. Convergence involves cross-industry collaboration, changing business models and companies making structural transformations. In fact, three out of four executives report seeing convergence in their industry. The main drivers behind this trend are changes in customer expectations and technological innovation.”
Wally’s Comment: This study identifies the key challenges you’ll want to develop your leaders to meet.
From Josh Bersin: Talent Management Revisited: Where are we now?
“Companies around the world are reorganizing their human resources teams to create Chief Talent Officers, Vice-Presidents of Talent Management, and Senior Talent Executives. And the software industry supporting this space continues to explode: Successfactors and Taleo are rated among the “hottest stocks” for 2011, and several other talent management vendors are planning on going public. So what IS talent management today?”
Wally’s Comment: Here’s a study that’s got lots of content that will get you thinking. It begins with the Big Cahuna of talent management questions: “What is talent management, anyway?”
