TGIF – Optimists Win

January 28, 2011 by Bill Bradley

As the week winds down, we wind down with some tidbits for your information, education, health, and enjoyment.

Quote of the Week:  “For myself I am an optimist – it does not seem to be much use being anything else.” Sir Winston Churchill

Humor Break: The optimist fell from the top story of a skyscraper. As he passed the fourth story, he was overheard muttering: “So far, so good!”

Stat of the Week: Recent research finds evidence that optimism pays off in job hunting and promotions. During the job search process, optimists spend less effort searching and are offered jobs more quickly. They are choosier and are more likely to be promoted than others.  Study based upon tracking recent MBA graduates.

Action Tip: If you are out job hunting, your attitude means a lot. Before interviews have some success talks with yourself and when you get into the interview, present yourself optimistically … even if you have to fake it!

Volunteering: Try coaching a children’s athletic team.  You can’t encourage kids without a certain amount of optimism on your part.
