TGIF – Butts In The News

August 31, 2012 by Bill Bradley

As the week winds down, we wind down with some tidbits for your information, education, health, and enjoyment.

Quote of the Week: “Life is to be lived. If you have to support yourself, you had bloody well better find some way that is going to be interesting. And you don’t do that by sitting around.”  Katharine Hepburn

Humor Break:

Bev: Al, you have been sitting in that chair for more than three hours.  What on earth are you thinking about?

Al: I’m thinking there must be more to life than sitting wondering if there is more to life.

Stat of the Week: 4 Articles.  In the past few weeks there has been a plethora of butts in the news.  Specifically, where they reside for the better part of each day.  The New York Times reported on the evils of sitting.  CNN reports that inactivity will be the death of you.  The BBC reports that young children watching too much TV are getting “waisted”.  And ScienceDaily reports that sitting for more than 3 hours a day can shorten your life by 2 years.  Yikes, if you have a desk job you could be working yourself to death!

Action Tip: Isn’t it obvious?  Get your ass out of bed, out of chair, and get moving!!!

Check It Out: The EnterTRAINER – Power Your TV with Exercise.  As far as I know there is no one selling treadmills or exercise bikes designed for powering your TV at home.  But this gadget comes close.

Bill Bradley (mostly) retired after 35 years in organizational consulting, training and management development. During those years he worked internally with seven organizations and trained and consulted externally with more than 90 large and small businesses, government agencies, hospitals and schools.
